Our  Mission

Enriching lives,  Meeting needs.

RSVP invites adults age 55 and over to use their life experience and skills to answer the call of their neighbors in need.  Volunteers give of their own time to help make a difference in their communities. You can find RSVP members in schools, medical facilities, thrift stores, food pantries, law enforcement centers, non-profit agencies and sometimes even working from their own homes.  Our volunteers become members of a national organization and receive supplemental accident and liability insurance.  Additionally, some volunteer sites offer free meals and transportation.

Fast Facts for 2004:

Between July 1 to December 31 2004 NDSU sponsored RSVP stations have coordinated with 1,244 volunteers to give a total of 108,355 hours of volunteer service!

Nationally RSVP volunteers have contributed more than 800 million hours.

Approximately 460,000 RSVP volunteers are serving in communities nationwide.

RSVP Today

Management: NDSU & RSVP History

North Dakota State University (NDSU) became the sponsor for RSVP programs serving the areas around Fargo-Moorhead, Grand Forks, Minot, and Jamestown on July 1, 2003. As an outreach unit, the Division of Distance and Continuing Education (DCE) identified older adults as an under-served population and wrote a federal grant to bring in the majority of operating dollars for the regional programs. On January 1, 2005, the RSVP program serving Bismarck-Mandan and surrounding areas also came under NDSU sponsorship. On July 1, 2005, Dakota West Region RSVP, based in Dickinson, joins the NDSU RSVP team. Federal dollars are matched locally in a variety of ways: United Ways of several communities, Foundations, city and county mill levies, service contracts, fund-raisers, and donations. Also serving the RSVP programs is a team of eight VISTAs (Volunteers In Service To America), launching special initiatives such as Kids on the Block puppet programs with the Mental Health Association of North Dakota, mentoring children of incarcerated parents in partnership with the Salvation Army and Foster Grandparent Program, and homeland security CERT training in partnership with the Citizen Corps Councils and the ND League of Cities. See the VISTA website at http://vista.ndsu.nodak.edu for more information specific to VISTA.
