VOLUNTEERS
HELP PATIENTS
IN RIDING THERAPY PROGRAM
“After three months of volunteer work at the Diamond R
Therapeutic Ranch, I find it very hard to put into words, the joy,
happiness and love that I see in the individuals who are participating in
the riding classes. The
improvement in these individuals is far beyond what a person ever hoped to
see. Their love for the horses
makes them extend all the strength they have to succeed in the therapy
offered to them through Diamond R. When
you see the joy and happiness in their eyes, you have a joy in your heart,
that the volunteer work you are doing is fully justified.”
—Paul Prochaska
The Diamond R Therapy Riding Program is directed by Rich Berg in
conjunction with Dakota Boys Ranch and a physical therapist from Trinity
Health. The program combines
the benefits of regular physical therapy with some additional benefit from
the movement of the horse. But
patients also benefit from just being around animals, much like that
patients get when pets are introduced into a nursing home.

DELIVERING MEALS TO SENIORS
Every Monday, Jeanette Mapes and Mary Rioux meet at the Parker Center where
they pick up prepared meals for seniors on the Home Delivered Meal
Program. Jeanette and Mary are
assigned to deliver meals to approximately 12-14 seniors.
At the same time, ten or eleven other teams of volunteers are
reporting to the Center and together the volunteers serve around 140 to
150 people each day.
This important service for seniors requires approximately a two-hour
volunteer commitment each week. So
if you think you can help, please call the RSVP office and sign up now.

AARP
Success
AARP
is a favorite assignment for many of our volunteers.
Most assignments involve clerical tasks for mailings.
During the Legislative session, a team of volunteers are
assigned
each Friday. This past session
the volunteers worked with high school students and bridged the
generational gap while getting information out to the senior population.
Marlowe Kro, Associate State Director, states, “The RSVP
volunteers are exceptional, always dependable and tireless at
accomplishing their work. They
are not afraid to try any tasks and are always successful. The volunteers
always smile; we love having them in our office.”
