Helping Children with Incarcerated Parents

Break the cycle!  Julie Eikamp will attend the Amachi Training Institute in Philadelphia.  Amachi is a program that was initiated in Philadelphia in churches.  The program focuses on mentoring children whose parents are incarcerated.

Studies show that children of prisoners are six times more likely than other children to be incarcerated at some time in their life.  Studies also show that without intervention 70% of these children will end up in the court systems themselves.

We have a great opportunities in our communities to break this cycle.  We need volunteers who are willing to mentor these children.  Volunteers need to have a background check, receive some training, and commit to mentoring for a year.  As a mentor, you could have the child over for a meal, take the child to a movie, take the child to church, or help with homework.  These children need a positive role model.  Make a difference!
